About the Author
David Kherdian is an award-winning author of over 50 books for children and adults. He has won numerous awards for his work, including the Newbery Medal for his novel The Road from Home.
Kherdian was born in Fresno, California, in 1931. He grew up in a farming community and attended Fresno State College. After graduating, he served in the U.S. Army and then taught English at Fresno City College.
Kherdian began writing for children in the 1970s. His first book, The Cat Who Went to Heaven, was published in 1974. Since then, he has written a wide variety of books for children, including picture books, novels, and poetry.
Kherdian's books are often praised for their lyrical language, vivid imagery, and heartwarming stories. He has been called "one of the most gifted writers for children today." (New York Times Book Review)
