At the age of 18, Dahlberg contracted scarlet fever, which left her deaf and blind. This devastating loss was a turning point in her life, as it forced her to find new ways to communicate and interact with the world. Writing and Authorship

In addition to her advocacy and educational work, Dahlberg was also a prolific writer and author. She wrote several books and articles about the experiences of deafblind people, sharing her own insights and advocating for their rights.

Dahlberg's most famous work is her autobiography, "A Deaf, Dumb, and Blind Girl's Life Story," which was first published in 1898. The book provides a firsthand account of her life and experiences, offering a unique perspective on the challenges and triumphs of living with deafblindness.
