Getting into college can be a daunting task, but it doesn't have to be. With these top hacks, you'll have a leg up on the competition and increase your chances of getting into the school of your dreams.
The Hacks
- Start early. The earlier you start thinking about college, the more time you'll have to research your options, prepare your applications, and get involved in extracurricular activities that will make you a more competitive applicant.
- Get good grades. Your grades are one of the most important factors in the college admissions process. Make sure to work hard in school and get the best grades you can.
- Take challenging courses. Colleges want to see that you're challenging yourself academically. Take a rigorous course load, including honors and AP classes.
- Get involved in extracurricular activities. Extracurricular activities show colleges that you're a well-rounded individual with interests outside of the classroom. Get involved in activities that you're passionate about and that will help you develop your leadership skills and teamwork abilities.
- Write a strong college essay. The college essay is your chance to show colleges who you are and why you're a good fit for their school. Take your time writing your essay and make sure it's well-written and error-free.
- Get good letters of recommendation. Letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors, and other adults who know you well can help you stand out from the competition. Ask people who can speak to your academic abilities, extracurricular involvement, and character.
- Apply to a variety of colleges. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Apply to a range of colleges, including some that are reach schools, some that are target schools, and some that are safety schools.
- Don't be afraid to ask for help. If you're struggling with any part of the college application process, don't be afraid to ask for help from your parents, teachers, counselors, or other trusted adults.
The Little Something Extra
In addition to the hacks listed above, there is one more thing you can do to increase your chances of getting into the college of your dreams: be yourself.
Colleges are looking for students who will be a good fit for their school. They want students who are passionate about their studies, involved in their community, and have a strong moral character. So be yourself and show colleges who you really are. They'll be able to tell if you're trying to be someone you're not.
Getting into college is a competitive process, but it's not impossible. By following these hacks and being yourself, you'll increase your chances of getting into the school of your dreams.
